Man Utd deny Andre Onana transfer wish ahead of Old Trafford return
Manchester United have no plans to reintegrate Andre Onana following his loan spell with Trabzonspor. The Cameroonian goalkeeper has spent the last season on loan with the Turkish side following a difficult couple of campaigns at Old Trafford. Onana dropped a number of high-profile clangers following his lucrative move from Inter Milan, which saw United choose to move him on and sign Senne Lammens as his replacement. With Onana’s loan with Trabzonspor set to expire over the coming weeks, he has already reportedly expressed a desire to return to Old Trafford and fight for his place. But those hopes look set to be dashed by the Red Devils as they attempt to get their squad in order ahead of next season. According to ESPN , there are no plans to include the 30-year-old in the club’s squad and work is already underway to find potential suitors. However, one sticking point in offloading the goalkeeper could be his wages, which look set to rise this summer after United sealed a spot in next season’s Champions League . FOLLOW OUR MAN UTD FB PAGE! Latest United news and more on our dedicated Facebook page Trabzonspor have regularly spoken out on the prospect of re-signing Onana and claimed that the Red Devils' financial demands would likely be prohibitive when it comes to a permanent move. “As the figure from Manchester United for the purchase of Andre Onana is in the range of €45-50m, our president has sincerely informed the community in line with Trabzonspor’s realities,” Trabzonspor vice-president Zeyyat Kafkas told Gunebakıs earlier this year. “I don’t think this information affected Onana at all. Because Onana’s thinking is that if it’s not England, he wants to continue at a club in Europe. “His family thinks the same way. The president also wanted to explain Trabzonspor’s reality. However, if the conditions change, the situation changes.” Meanwhile, Trabzonspor president Ertuğrul Doğan has suggested that only Onana will decide ultimately where his future lies. Speaking to NTV Spor, he said: "Onana's career is already established. We like him. I've said this before. He has a certain plan for his career. If the conditions are right, we want him to stay. The final decision will be Onana's." Onana has made 32 appearances for Trabzonspor this season and kept six clean sheets. He might not be the only goalkeeper to bid farewell to the club this season. Backup stopper Altay Bayindir could also be sold, having fallen out of favour since Lammens’ arrival. Join our new WhatsApp community! Lammens holds Sunderland at bay as Manchester United struggle without Sesko
If Michael Carrick goes on to secure the Manchester United job on a permanent basis as expected, then he is unlikely to spend too much time watching the highlight reel of this forgettable encounter during the summer. From the high of downing their arch-rivals Liverpool at a raucous Old Trafford to secure Champions League qualification to a chilly, damp afternoon on Wearside where United were generally second best to a vibrant Sunderland side. The visitors, showing five changes and without the in-form Casemiro and Benjamin Sesko, could have easily buckled in the face of some intense pressure, Brian Brobbey causing United’s backline plenty of problems throughout. Only the woodwork, and some fine goalkeeping from Senne Lammens, denied the hosts victory as United held firm. “It was a tough game, but credit to Sunderland,” said Carrick, who took umbrage at a suggestion his players looked like they were on the beach. “I get offended if people are accusing us of that because if we weren’t motivated and in a good headspace then we lose that game today. We had to dig deep at times and weren’t at our best, but actually to take something from a game in which we weren’t at our best is a good trait that we’re trying to build. “Yes, there were obviously changes and we were trying to find our rhythm, which was understandable. But I still quite liked a lot of the things that we did to give ourselves a foundation. I’ll take a point and a clean sheet.” United struggled to pose much of an attacking threat. Joshua Zirkzee, deputising for Sesko up front and linked with a summer exit from Old Trafford, made little impact and was withdrawn in the 65th minute. Carrick defended the striker on his first start since December, saying: “There were certain times when Josh linked up play really well and other times when we probably left him a bit isolated. I understand it’s not always easy for anyone when you haven’t played much to come into a game, but I’m not judging any individual on just one performance today.” Noah Sadiki spurned Sunderland’s best chance when he burst clear early on, only for Lammens to deny him. The former Sunderland loanee Amad Diallo handled in the home box during the first half, but the video assistant referee, Peter Bankes, backed up Stuart Attwell’s on-pitch decision to wave play on. The United goalkeeper then bravely saved at the feet of Brobbey, who was a constant threat and forced another save from Lammens after the break. Brobbey turned provider to tee up Lutsharel Geertruida late on, but his effort from the edge of the area thudded against the foot of a post as United survived. The visitors, though, might have pilfered the points late on, but Matheus Cunha’s injury-time effort was saved by Robin Roefs. That Sunderland were frustrated not to have come away with all three points said much for their progress this season. Their head coach, Régis Le Bris, said: “Yes, we are a bit disappointed not to win. That was the mood in the dressing room, probably in the stands as well, which is a good sign. We created probably enough chances at least to score and I think we defended it well.” Sunderland have registered an impressive 11 clean sheets this season and they hardly gave Carrick’s team a sniff here. Le Bris added: “Yes, we conceded one shot on target just at the end against a strong squad with many good players and gamechangers. “So, overall, the game was positive because it’s always a balance, the way you defend and you work hard as a team to control different players and patterns. At the same time, you want to control the game, so taking risks under pressure sometimes to create chances. “In our last game at home it was not a good balance but I think today it was. We were just not clinical enough in the final third.”

Manchester United team vs Sunderland predicted as Carrick makes changes with Sesko call made
Manchester United have three games remaining in the Premier League season. United secured Champions League football last weekend but the Reds will want to finish the campaign on a high. Michael Carrick hinted on Thursday that changes could be made to give some fringe players an opportunity to impress. However, a raft of changes is unlikely. Lisandro Martinez is back from his three-match suspension and could start. Harry Maguire has not let Carrick down this season and should keep his spot. Ayden Heaven has done nothing wrong but Carrick could be tempted to pair Leny Yoro with the experienced defender. Yoro was playing well up until his injury and deserves a run-out against Sunderland. Diogo Dalot and Luke Shaw have nailed down the full-back positions. Click here to find out the latest Manchester United news in our daily newsletter Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo will start in midfield. The Brazil international is in the last stretch of his farewell tour and deserves to start every game, fitness dependent. Attacking midfield is where changes are more likely. Bruno Fernandes is still on the hunt for the assist record and he is the key to this United team. Benjamin Sesko had to be taken off after colliding with the advertising hoarding against Liverpool and Carrick said after the game United were being careful with him. This makes him the obvious option to drop out. Bryan Mbeumo could then move from right wing to centre-forward. He has done well in that role previously and after struggling for form recently, a return up top could be just what is needed. Amad's mistake gave Liverpool a route back into last weekend's game. He needs to play his way out of this form and a return to a stadium that holds happy memories for him could get him back on track. Matheus Cunha will start on the left ahead of Patrick Dorgu. United predicted XI vs Sunderland: Lammens; Dalot, Yoro, Maguire, Shaw; Casemiro, Mainoo; Amad, Fernandes, Cunha, Mbeumo

Senne Lammens has solved one of Manchester United's biggest problems
Some reports have claimed Andre Onana wants to return to Manchester United in the summer, in a bid to win back his place in the team. Memo to Andre - I wouldn't bother mate. It remains to be seen if Onana chooses to extend his loan spell with Turkish side Trabzonspor. He is not short of admirers there, including the club's president Ertugrul Dogan. Dogan is desperate for the deal to become permanent, following the goalkeeper's match winning performance in the Turkish cup. But the love he has in Eastern Europe is not mirrored back in Manchester. Because all the affection Onana once craved at Old Trafford, now belongs to his successor. Click here to find out the latest Manchester United news in our daily newsletter Senne Lammens didn't arrived in Manchester with a big reputation when he joined United from Royal Antwerp for just £18.2m in September. But in the space of less than eight months he has earned himself one. Nothing outlined how crucial Lammens has become to United's recent success than his performance in Monday night's home win over Brentford. The Belgian produced a string of stunning saves to frustrate the visitors. It felt like a microcosm of Lammens' whole season. United have made some blundering mistakes in the transfer market in recent times. But choosing Lammens ahead of a deal to lure World Cup winner Emiliano Martinez to Old Trafford wasn't one of them. And there can be fewer compliments higher than this, considering Martinez remains one of the best keepers in the world. Those who work in football claim keepers are different to outfield players. Not just in terms of their position and role in a game, but also their approach to them. Some have even suggested those in the keeper union are borderline bonkers. But if Lammens belongs to this group, he does little to suggest this is true. The 23-year-old is the epitome of composure, class and calm. He puts this down to the upbringing he had from his parents in Zottegem. Since turning professional, he has poured over books about sporting icons like Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan, in a bid to discover what makes them tick. He writes messages to himself on little notes before kick off. He reads them in the dressing room, and has even been known to attach some to his water bottle to take out onto the pitch. Reminders of what he must focus on to keep cool under pressure - and be the best he can be. And in his spare time he is reluctant to watch football. Perhaps he should, because if he caught a glimpse of some reruns of United games, he would be impressed with himself. But United appear to have found the first genuine successor to their last great goalkeeper, David De Gea. Lammens has the bulk of his career ahead of him - and United must hope it is spent in the red half of Manchester. Because he has solved one of the major problems United had to fix.

Man Utd handed major transfer boost as club chief gives green light for deal
Trabzonspor's president has revealed that the club are keen to sign Andre Onana on a permanent basis from Manchester United this summer. The goalkeeper has spent the current campaign on loan in Turkey with the Super Lig side after falling out of favour at Old Trafford. Onana had prepared for the 2025-26 season expecting to remain at United, but suffered a hamstring injury that ruled him out of the opening fixture, and was subsequently dropped by Ruben Amorim upon his return to full fitness. Senne Lammens was brought in on deadline day with Onana heading out on loan. Trabzonspor agreed to cover the 30-year-old's wages in full, meaning he actually received a pay rise owing to Turkey's 20 per cent tax rate for players in the Super Lig. Onana has featured in every league match for Trabzonspor this season, playing a pivotal role in their push for the Turkish title, with his displays drawing glowing praise from the local press. The Cameroon international earned further acclaim this week after saving three penalties during a shootout in the Turkish Cup quarter-finals. Following that match, Trabzonspor president Ertuğrul Doğan was quizzed about Onana's future and made clear his desire to keep him, report The Manchester Evening News Speaking to NTV Spor, he said: "Onana's career is already established. We like him. I've said this before. He has a certain plan for his career. If the conditions are right, we want him to stay. The final decision will be Onana's." Trabzonspor could offer Onana reduced wages this summer while still matching what he earned at United, thanks to Turkey's favourable tax regulations for professional players in the top flight. United will look to sell Onana on a permanent basis and recover as much as possible of the £47.2million they shelled out to sign the goalkeeper from Inter Milan back in the summer of 2023. Lammens has cemented himself as first choice during his debut campaign at United. Altay Bayindir has filled the No.2 role, but the 28 year old could seek pastures new this summer in pursuit of regular first-team football as a No.1 goalkeeper. Radek Vitek is an option to step in as United's second-choice stopper, but the gifted Czech goalkeeper is keen to play regularly following a successful loan spell with Bristol City in the Championship. Onana's contract at United is due to run until the summer of 2028. Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. Trusted insider reveals Man Utd transfer plans for midfield and centre-back reinforcements
United's football department are already planning for the summer

Harry Maguire demands action from Man Utd chiefs before 'really big' transfer window
Harry Maguire believes that Manchester United can compete for the Premier League title next season if they get things right in the summer transfer window. Maguire has signed a new one-year contract with United and is feeling positive going into a "really really big" summer for the club. The 33-year-old defender has enjoyed a renaissance since Michael Carrick became interim manager in January. United have taken 23 points from a possible 30 under Carrick to move up to third place in the Premier League. They are on course to qualify for next season's Champions League , but Maguire thinks they still have plenty of work to do. United spent £225million last summer, bringing in Senne Lammens, Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko, and the veteran centre-back has called upon club chiefs to invest once more in the off-season. "We've had a great few months under the manager," said Maguire, as reported by Manchester Evening News . "I feel like the squad is starting to look like something that is a strong squad. But this summer's going to be big, really, really big. We need more players, we need better quality, we need players to come into the starting eleven. FOLLOW OUR MAN UTD FB PAGE! Latest United news and more on our dedicated Facebook page "Looking at the Premier League at the moment, I think over the last few years you've obviously had Manchester City , who were really tough to catch, and before the start of the season, you knew you had to put a points tally together where it was some going to catch them. "I think next season you look at it and I think we've got to be in the bracket where if we get the recruitment right and everything's positive from now to the end of the season and we keep going on the curve there's no ceiling to where we can reach. We've got to be in the conversation to go and win the big trophies." United have not won the Premier League since 2013 and have not come close to repeating that success, with Manchester City dominating the top of the table. But having picked up seven wins from 10 games under Carrick to move clear of Aston Villa , Liverpool and Chelsea , Maguire is looking up. "I always say football is about memories and you can create memories by having iconic matches, scoring goals, but the bottom line is you get memories from winning big trophies. I want to be part of that. That's everyone's dream." A return to the Champions League will help United's director of football Jason Wilcox to sign top players in the summer. Wilcox and chief executive Omar Berrada are the men who will also decide whether to hand the full-time management job to Carrick. United have a 24-day break between their 2-2 draw against Bournemouth and the upcoming match against Leeds on Monday. They have been whisked away to a four-day training camp in Dublin in preparation for the game at Old Trafford. Man Utd news: £50m raid for one of world's best players planned in shock transfer update
Manchester United will be hoping for more encouraging transfers this summer after an impressive set of signings last time out. Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, Senne Lammens and Benjamin Sesko were recruited at a combined cost of £216million. And have all shown promise as they have helped interim manager Michael Carrick fire the club up to third in the Premier League. While United are certain to end the season without silverware, they look increasingly likely to secure Champions League qualification . That is vital to the future of the club and their finances. Nevertheless, United's possible achievements in the market this summer could hinge as much on agreements for players departing the club as it will on fresh arrivals . Here's all the latest news from Old Trafford. JOIN US ON FB! Get all the best sports news and much more on our Facebook page Plenty of United supporters were gutted to see Scott McTominay depart his boyhood club for Napoli in the summer of 2024. And after extracting such tremendous value from the Scot, the Italian powerhouses will seek to replicate that same formula, reports the Mirror . That's after it surfaced that Napoli are eyeing as many as four soon-to-be out-of-contract United players this summer. Antonio Conte's outfit could have another collection of cut-price deals on their hands if their Old Trafford scouting mission succeeds - and reunite McTominay with one or more former United team-mates. CalcioNapoli24 has reported Napoli are preparing moves for Harry Maguire , Casemiro, Tyrell Malacia and Tom Heaton. Each of the quartet are presently set to see their contracts expire this summer. Of those mentioned, only Maguire and Casemiro could be deemed genuinely crucial to Carrick's plans this season. The latter has already confirmed he will depart on a free this summer, though there's speculation about Casemiro potentially having a change of heart and penning a deal for another campaign. Maguire, 33, is also reportedly in advanced discussions to sign a new short-term contract, according to the Athletic's David Ornstein. It's been suggested the England defender could nearly slash his wages in half to remain at Old Trafford, but the opportunity of a fresh start in Naples may also prove tempting. Napoli are free to negotiate terms with any of the four players now they're each in the final six months of their respective contracts. Both McTominay and Rasmus Hojlund, who has been on loan with the Serie A outfit this season, can attest that the grass is sometimes greener on the other side. Should Malacia indeed leave at the end of this season, the gifted Alphonso Davies could arrive at left-back. The Canadian, 25, has been out of Vincent Kompany's plans this term due to recurring injury problems, including an ACL tear that kept him sidelined at the start of the campaign. Yet the speedster remains one of the most exciting talents in world football when fit. But Bild's Christian Falk has reported United are very much interested in his signature. The club wants fresh competition for Luke Shaw, who has endured his own share of injury problems but still remains highly regarded for the position when fit. Diogo Dalot has returned to featuring at right-back on a more permanent basis since Carrick took charge in January. Patrick Dorgu was also brought in to cover on the left flank, but it appears his future could be further forward. That's said to have turned United towards Canada captain and flying fullback Davies, who is barely 12 months into a Bayern contract that's due to run until 2030. However, the right offer could persuade Die Roten to sell after seemingly growing frustrated with the value they're receiving given his injury troubles. Davies would be expected to command a fee of more than £50m.

The Manchester United midfield transfer that would break the mould for Ineos
Manchester United have completed 11 permanent first-team signings since Ineos took charge of football operations just over two years ago, and the direction of travel isn't difficult to see. First under Dan Ashworth and now Jason Wilcox, United have turned their focus on transfers towards youth , with director of recruitment Christopher Vivell playing a key role in the process as well. Of those 11 signings since the summer of 2024, all of them have been 26 or under, seven were 23 or younger and the average of them all is just over 22. Financial rules have forced clubs to look at resale value in the transfer market and the trend is towards youth, something United have been willing to embrace. Get MEN Premium now for just £1 HERE – or get involved in our United WhatsApp group by clicking HERE . You can also join our United Facebook page by clicking HERE and don't miss out on our brilliant selection of newsletters HERE. Last summer was a good example of the approach now. United spent around £130million on 26-year-old Matheus Cunha and 25-year-old Bryan Mbeumo, two players with Premier League experience who are about to enter their peak years. Then they spent around £100million on 23-year-old Senne Lammens and 22-year-old Benjamin Sesko. Lammens and Sesko are two Premier League imports who can afford a year or so getting up to speed with English football and have plenty of time on their side. That they have both hit the ground running this season is encouraging. It is expected that this strategy will continue at Old Trafford and the vast majority of targets they are looking at fit the bill when it comes to the age profile. Of the major midfield targets, Elliot Anderson (23), Adam Wharton (22) and Carlos Baleba (22) all have their best years of them. Sandro Tonali is 25 and is in a similar position to Mbeumo and Cunha, in that he could come in and make an immediate impact. The outlier here is Tonali's Newcastle teammate Bruno Guimaraes. United have shown interest in Italy international Tonali, who could push for a move this summer, but have also since been linked with Guimaraes. Newcastle will be desperate to hold on to their captain, and he has rejected the chance to force a move out in previous windows. Guimaraes has proved himself to be an outstanding Premier League midfielder and he might be the most complete option available to United, but he is also someone already in his prime years. The Brazil international will turn 29 in November, and the days when players in their 20s and early 30s make big-money moves seem to have passed. The last time United paid a fee for someone of that age was the £70million they paid Real Madrid for a 30-year-old Casemiro in August 2022. He has been an excellent servant to the club, but has cost more than £140million in wages and fees, and was highlighted by Sir Jim Ratcliffe as an example of poor recruitment during due diligence ahead of his investment. United have invested heavily in data since Ratcliffe's February 2024 investment, and they have clearly shifted towards a recruitment model that focuses on youth and getting value for players who have their best years ahead of them. Trying to sign Guimaraes would break that mould, but then there is an argument that for three years, he might push United closer to the ultimate aim of regaining the Premier League title. That is the balance Ineos will be weighing up when it comes to major investment in the midfield this summer. Does the focus remain on building a squad for tomorrow, or is there a case to be made every now and again for going after a player who can deliver instantly, even if that might be more short-term? The approach United take this summer might be instructive to their ambitions over the next couple of seasons.
