Liverpool set to table huge Yan Diomande offer as transfer talks ramp up
Liverpool are ready to make Yan Diomande one of the most expensive players in their history - with a €100m package now set aside for the RB Leipzig star. And on a dramatic day of transfer activity at Anfield on Thursday , it was claimed an offer has been formally rejected by Leipzig , who are determined to keep the Ivory Coast international. Liverpool have been in talks with Leipzig for a number of weeks over Diomande but discussions were stepped up significantly on Thursday. The Reds are ready to table an eye-watering €100m (£86m). Ongoing conversations between key figures at both clubs, however, have yet to yield a breakthrough, despite the huge finances on offer. Sources in Germany believe Liverpool’s offer was official and rebuffed. Leipzig are fighting to retain the electric 19-year-old winger and want him to sign a new deal that would likely contain a release clause. The Bundesliga side have a good relationship with the Reds that has been honed over much of the last decade, with deals for Naby Keita , Ibrahima Konate and Dominik Szoboszlai all being thrashed out since 2017. Fabio Carvalho was also loaned to Leipzig in 2023 and negotiations over Harvey Elliott also took place last summer but an agreement could not be found. Despite the good terms, however, the Red Bull outfit remain steadfast in their insistence that Diomande won’t be leaving. A fee of €130m (£112m) is being sought if Leipzig are to reluctantly sell, which would make the Ivory Coast international he third most expensive of all time on Merseyside behind the 2025 deals for the £116m Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak , who became the most expensive footballer in British history when he moved from Newcastle United on September 1 for £125m. Brighton & Hove Albion star Yankuba Minteh, Said El Mala, who plays for Koln, and Lille wideman Matias Fernandez-Pardo are three other options Liverpool may consider if they are forced to step away from negotiations over Diomande. However, the former Leganes youngster is undoubtedly the primary target at this stage as the Reds look to further add to their attacking options after sealing a £34.5m deal for Victor Munoz from Osasuna on Thursday . European champions Paris Saint-Germain are also looking to sign Diomande. However, competition for a place in a front three that sees Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Desire Doue, Ousmane Dembele and Bradley Barcola all battle for minutes alongside Goncalo Ramos might impact the decision of the teenager. The opportunity to succeed a legendary figure like Mohamed Salah may appeal to Diomande and it’s been reported that Liverpool have made more in-roads with the player’s agency than PSG, who retained the Champions League on May 30, the day Arne Slot was sacked on Merseyside . Diomande is represented by the New York-based Roc Nation Sports, which is owned by rap star JAY Z, but the player’s previous representatives, Maxidel Management, are currently locked in a legal dispute with the firm, having seen their former client leave in February. The youngster shone in Ivory Coast’s World Cup victory over Ecuador earlier this week and is currently preparing for their second game of the tournament against Wirtz’s Germany on Saturday, in Toronto. Liverpool have been assessing profiles who they feel will be able to extract maximum value from Isak going forward after Salah, top scorer in eight of his nine seasons at the club, announced his decision to leave at the end of the campaign back in March . And with the club looking to change their approach to a more aggressive and front-footed approach under new boss Andoni Iraola, Diomande ticks all the boxes. Iraola met with his new recruitment department earlier this month and gave the green light to a pursuit for Munoz, who also had suitors from the Premier League in Manchester United and Newcastle United. But the interest in Diomande predates Iraola’s Anfield arrival and he is viewed as one of the most exciting teenagers in world football after a campaign that saw him score 12 goals and create nine assists in 33 Bundesliga games. Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp has chance to fix biggest regret as Mo Salah hits out over send-off
Mohamed Salah will miss his chance say goodbye to Manchester United on Sunday as Liverpool visit Old Trafford. The 33-year-old suffered a muscle injury in the Reds' 3-1 win over Crystal Palace last week, resulting in fears he'd already played his final game for the reigning Premier League champions. However, the club confirmed earlier this week that Salah is expected to feature before the end of the season . But the return won't come quick enough for him to line up against United one more time. The Egyptian superstar has haunted Liverpool's bitter rivals with 13 league goals against United since his Anfield arrival in 2017, more than any other player in competition's history. He's also scored seven times at Old Trafford, with no player scoring more in English top-flight history. Ahead of the clash, the winger has hit out over a send-off his former team-mate never received. Meanwhile, Salah's former manager Jurgen Klopp may have the chance to resolve something he previously admitted was a huge regret. Mirror Football looks at some of the stories surrounding the Merseyside club. During his nine-year career at Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp achieved everything there was to achieve in football. Despite bringing the biggest honours back to Anfield, the German admitted he had one key regret across his tenure. Speaking ahead of his departure in May 2024, Klopp said he regretted not playing Harvey Elliott more in his final season. Despite the 23-year-old featuring in 53 games across all competitions, he started just 11 league games as Klopp said: "It’s not like I go back and think, 'Where did we go wrong here and there?' But if I regret one thing a little bit it’s that Harvey didn’t play often enough, maybe. FOLLOW OUR LIVERPOOL FB PAGE! Latest Reds news and more on our dedicated Facebook page "In a very important and intense period in January when we had a lot of injuries, he played really good, probably our best player, whether it was right wing or right midfield, all these kind of things. "[Then] everybody came back and he had a few minutes here and there and didn’t start any more and then came on and made a big impact. It’s really nice that he could show that." An opportunity to fix his regret is viable thanks to Klopp's role as Red Bull's Head of Global Soccer and Liverpool's reported interest in RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande. According to The Telegraph , the 19-year starlet has a valuation of €100million (£86m) and the Reds could look to use Elliott as a makeweight in a potential deal. The Bundesliga side were interested in the Liverpool star last summer before he joined Aston Villa on a season-long loan. With Salah expected to receive a send-off fit for a king in Liverpool's last league fixture of the season against Brentford, the Reds icon believes the club should organise a fitting farewell for Jordan Henderson . The ex-Reds captain was an integral figure in Liverpool's return to prominence in a period where they won the Premier League and Champions League . After 12 years of service, the Brentford midfielder left abruptly in 2023 for Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq without a farewell. However, he will return to Anfield on May 24 when the Bees take on his former side with Salah imploring the club - and the fans - to give Henderson a special reception. Speaking to Steven Gerrard on TNT Sports' The Breakdown, Salah said: "One more thing I'd really like to mention, and there is no better place to mention it than with you. "I think the last game of the season is against Brentford and people in the city know how much it meant to Hendo also, being here, captain of the club, for 12 years - more than me, more than Virg, more than Robbo, more than anyone at the club. "He didn't get the send off or farewell he deserved because he left immediately. I don't know how the club is going to manage it, I have no plan, I also don't know how the supporters will manage it but I really wish they do something special for him because he has been one of the best players at this club. "Without him - and I have been there in the dressing room - without him we would not have achieved what we achieved, so I really hope the fans will give a good send off. I really hope so."
