Man Utd confirm Andre Onana exit as Michael Carrick's transfer plan takes shape
Manchester United have confirmed that Andre Onana has rejoined Trabzonspor on loan in a boost to Michael Carrick's transfer plans. Onana, 30, spent last season in Turkey, having fallen out of favour at Old Trafford . The goalkeeper racked up 40 appearances to help Trabzonspor win the Turkish Cup and finish third in the Super Lig. Onana will now spend the 2026-27 season at Papara Park, with United announcing that the move had been agreed on Friday. Trabzonspor will pay the Red Devils a loan fee worth £1.3million and cover Onana's wages - which have increased due to United's involvement in the Champions League - in full. The deal doesn't, however, include an option to buy. Onana's departure frees up room for United to bring in a new goalkeeper, as Carrick was faced with having to integrate the ex-Ajax star back into the squad should he have stayed, while his wages would've taken room in the budget. The Red Devils have reportedly shortlisted Leeds goalkeeper Karl Darlow and Wolves ' Sam Johnstone as options. Get the latest World Cup 2026 news in your inbox with our Make Football Great Again newsletter United want to sign an experienced No.2 to support Senne Lammens, who had a brilliant first season after joining from Royal Antwerp last summer. Altay Bayindir served as his understudy in the 2025-26 campaign but United also plan to offload him. The Turkey international is said agreed personal terms with Besiktas , who were linked with a move in January. Bayindir, 28, has only made 17 appearances in three seasons at Old Traffford and should he complete the move to Istanbul, he'll hope to enjoy the same uptick in his career as Onana enjoyed. "I'm very happy, trust me. I'm living the best period of my life," the Cameroonian told Turkish outlet Yeniasir in December. "I can't complain, I'm very happy to be here. Sometimes I'm driving and a car cuts in front of me. 'Onana, stop, I want a photo'. Which goalkeeper should Manchester United sign? Have your say in the comments section . "I think to myself, 'Yes, but we can do this in another way'. But when they see me, they're happy, and so am I. It was difficult at first, but now I understand. "They are my men, I love them, and I love this feeling because they are very passionate. It's a wonderful thing. It's something you can't describe if you're not here. "But the time I've spent here has been perfect for me. I'm happy to be here. It's a different lifestyle, but it's great. Truly incredible, amazing." Man Utd news: 'Next Caicedo' arrives as 'contact made' for £75m World Cup star
Manchester United face a crucial transfer window as boss Michael Carrick looks to build upon his promising start in the Old Trafford hotseat. The Red Devils will be eager to surpass last season's third-place finish and make an impact in the Champions League . Brazilian midfielder Ederson is poised to complete a move to United from Atalanta and further signings - plus a few departures - are on the cards. With Casemiro leaving on the expiry of his contract, further midfield signings are required and United are reportedly locked in a battle with Tottenham for West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes. The Portugal international is among a number of players linked with a switch to Old Trafford, along with Newcastle United's Sandro Tonali, although Elliot Anderson - another player United were interested in - has agreed to join Manchester City . On the departures front, goalkeeper Andre Onana looks set to extend his loan at Trabzonspor, with the Turkish side covering his wages and paying a loan fee. Latest United news and more on our dedicated Facebook page Exciting midfielder Cristian Orozco is set to start life at United as he closes in on his 18th birthday. United agreed to sign Fortaleza CEIF starlet last September but have to wait until July 13, when he turns 18, to register him. United are getting ahead of the game by flying him to Manchester this weekend with chief scout Giuseppe Antonaccio to begin the aclimitisation process and conduct his medical. Given his tender age, the Colombian, whose style of play has been likened to Chelsea's Moises Caicedo, is regarded as one for the future and will initially slot into United's under-21 setup. However, some first-team action next season isn't out of the question. With United involved in the Champions League, Carrick may rotate his side heavily in the Carabao Cup. United have made contact with World Cup star Felix Nmecha, according to reports in Germany . Numerous clubs are said to be interested in Borussia Dortmund's Nmecha, who has earned rave reviews for his performances in North America so far this summer. Sky Germany claim United are looking to beat the 'increasing competition' for the 25-year-old and haven't been put off by his long-term Dortmund contract, which has four years left to run and has a £75.5million buyout clause. Newcastle are also said to be interested in but reportedly want to lower the asking price, potentially leaving the door open for Man United to sweep in. A move to the Premier League is attractive to Nmecha, who is the younger brother of Leeds United forward Lukas. For now, Felix's focus will be on the World Cup, where Germany face Paraguay in the last 32 after topping Group E. Man Utd news: Mateus Fernandes transfer twist as star ‘agrees’ personal terms
Manchester United are facing an important transfer window as manager Michael Carrick prepares to build on his early success at Old Trafford. The club will want to improve on last season’s third-place finish and also make an impact upon their return to the Champions League . Brazilian midfielder Ederson is set to join United from Atalanta after striking an early deal for the 26-year-old . However, more recruits are expected as the club look to replace the outgoing Casemiro and bolster their midfield options. United reportedly face competition from Tottenham Hotspur in their pursuit of West Ham star Mateus Fernandes. The Portugal international is one of several players to be linked with a move to Old Trafford, alongside Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson and Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali. In terms of outgoings, goalkeeper Andre Onana is reportedly nearing an exit after spending last season out on loan . Here, Mirror Football looks at some of the biggest stories surrounding United. FOLLOW OUR MAN UTD FB PAGE! Latest United news and more on our dedicated Facebook page United could face a twist in their hopes of signing West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes. The Portugal international is reportedly valued at £80 million by the Hammers. The Sun reports that Tottenham are “prepared to offer more” than United in terms of wages. Roberto De Zerbi’s side finished 17th last season but are claimed to be ready to pay bigger salaries for their marquee targets. Unlike Spurs, United can offer Fernandes the chance to play in the Champions League next season. However, it remains to be seen whether Tottenham’s willingness to pay higher wages will impact United’s transfer plans. Southampton are set to receive 15 per cent of any potential transfer fee for Fernandes after selling him for £38m last year. The midfielder was subsequently unable to help West Ham avoid relegation, scoring three goals and assisting four across 36 league games. Man Utd 'make contact' with Julian Alvarez as Arsenal and Barcelona transfer hijack rumoured
Manchester United have reportedly been in direct contact with Julian Alvarez's representatives. The transfer saga involving the Atletico Madrid star has intensified recently following his explosive exit declaration, a scathing statement directed at Barcelona and two substantial bids being knocked back. Those two approaches both originated from Atletico's La Liga rivals, with Real Madrid publicly confirming their €150million (£129m) offer was declined, while Barca likewise saw a hefty bid rejected. In a bid to engineer a move, Alvarez made a striking admission while on World Cup duty with Argentina . Speaking to ESPN, he said: "The best thing for me is a transfer and I want to fulfil my dream. I don't want to hide or act like I don't want to be clear. I try to be honest. I spoke to Atletico people and I think the best for everyone involved is for me to leave." The latest reports emerging from Spain suggest that Diego Simeone's outfit do not plan on negotiating with Barcelona regarding Alvarez. That seemed to position Arsenal as frontrunners for his signature, but United have now entered the fray. According to Diario AS journalist Marcos Duran , United have held discussions with Alvarez's agent after monitoring the 26-year-old's circumstances. FOLLOW OUR MAN UTD FB PAGE! Latest United news and more on our dedicated Facebook page He has further stated that United possess funds to deploy now they've secured Champions League football, with his impressive displays at bitter rivals Manchester City clearly influencing their thinking. The Argentine netted 36 goals in 103 appearances at the Etihad Stadium, yet frequently played second fiddle to Erling Haaland . He has since established himself as Atletico's key man, which goes some way to explaining the considerable interest in securing his services. Having bolstered their attack substantially last summer, midfield reinforcement is firmly at the top of Michael Carrick's agenda ahead of the 2026/27 campaign. A deal has already been struck for Ederson to arrive from Atalanta, with West Ham's Mateus Fernandes also a firm target. Spurs have since entered the running for his signature and United are facing stiff competition from Roberto De Zerbi's side, who appear better placed to meet the Hammers' valuation and Fernandes' wage expectations. Arsenal have also been linked with the Portuguese midfielder but now seem more focused on Lille's Ayyoub Bouaddi and Newcastle United skipper Bruno Guimaraes. His club teammate Sandro Tonali is similarly attracting attention from both north London clubs, with the Italian favouring the Gunners but remaining open to a move to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Man Utd deny Andre Onana transfer wish ahead of Old Trafford return
Manchester United have no plans to reintegrate Andre Onana following his loan spell with Trabzonspor. The Cameroonian goalkeeper has spent the last season on loan with the Turkish side following a difficult couple of campaigns at Old Trafford. Onana dropped a number of high-profile clangers following his lucrative move from Inter Milan, which saw United choose to move him on and sign Senne Lammens as his replacement. With Onana’s loan with Trabzonspor set to expire over the coming weeks, he has already reportedly expressed a desire to return to Old Trafford and fight for his place. But those hopes look set to be dashed by the Red Devils as they attempt to get their squad in order ahead of next season. According to ESPN , there are no plans to include the 30-year-old in the club’s squad and work is already underway to find potential suitors. However, one sticking point in offloading the goalkeeper could be his wages, which look set to rise this summer after United sealed a spot in next season’s Champions League . FOLLOW OUR MAN UTD FB PAGE! Latest United news and more on our dedicated Facebook page Trabzonspor have regularly spoken out on the prospect of re-signing Onana and claimed that the Red Devils' financial demands would likely be prohibitive when it comes to a permanent move. “As the figure from Manchester United for the purchase of Andre Onana is in the range of €45-50m, our president has sincerely informed the community in line with Trabzonspor’s realities,” Trabzonspor vice-president Zeyyat Kafkas told Gunebakıs earlier this year. “I don’t think this information affected Onana at all. Because Onana’s thinking is that if it’s not England, he wants to continue at a club in Europe. “His family thinks the same way. The president also wanted to explain Trabzonspor’s reality. However, if the conditions change, the situation changes.” Meanwhile, Trabzonspor president Ertuğrul Doğan has suggested that only Onana will decide ultimately where his future lies. Speaking to NTV Spor, he said: "Onana's career is already established. We like him. I've said this before. He has a certain plan for his career. If the conditions are right, we want him to stay. The final decision will be Onana's." Onana has made 32 appearances for Trabzonspor this season and kept six clean sheets. He might not be the only goalkeeper to bid farewell to the club this season. Backup stopper Altay Bayindir could also be sold, having fallen out of favour since Lammens’ arrival. Join our new WhatsApp community! Senne Lammens has solved one of Manchester United's biggest problems
Some reports have claimed Andre Onana wants to return to Manchester United in the summer, in a bid to win back his place in the team. Memo to Andre - I wouldn't bother mate. It remains to be seen if Onana chooses to extend his loan spell with Turkish side Trabzonspor. He is not short of admirers there, including the club's president Ertugrul Dogan. Dogan is desperate for the deal to become permanent, following the goalkeeper's match winning performance in the Turkish cup. But the love he has in Eastern Europe is not mirrored back in Manchester. Because all the affection Onana once craved at Old Trafford, now belongs to his successor. Click here to find out the latest Manchester United news in our daily newsletter Senne Lammens didn't arrived in Manchester with a big reputation when he joined United from Royal Antwerp for just £18.2m in September. But in the space of less than eight months he has earned himself one. Nothing outlined how crucial Lammens has become to United's recent success than his performance in Monday night's home win over Brentford. The Belgian produced a string of stunning saves to frustrate the visitors. It felt like a microcosm of Lammens' whole season. United have made some blundering mistakes in the transfer market in recent times. But choosing Lammens ahead of a deal to lure World Cup winner Emiliano Martinez to Old Trafford wasn't one of them. And there can be fewer compliments higher than this, considering Martinez remains one of the best keepers in the world. Those who work in football claim keepers are different to outfield players. Not just in terms of their position and role in a game, but also their approach to them. Some have even suggested those in the keeper union are borderline bonkers. But if Lammens belongs to this group, he does little to suggest this is true. The 23-year-old is the epitome of composure, class and calm. He puts this down to the upbringing he had from his parents in Zottegem. Since turning professional, he has poured over books about sporting icons like Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan, in a bid to discover what makes them tick. He writes messages to himself on little notes before kick off. He reads them in the dressing room, and has even been known to attach some to his water bottle to take out onto the pitch. Reminders of what he must focus on to keep cool under pressure - and be the best he can be. And in his spare time he is reluctant to watch football. Perhaps he should, because if he caught a glimpse of some reruns of United games, he would be impressed with himself. But United appear to have found the first genuine successor to their last great goalkeeper, David De Gea. Lammens has the bulk of his career ahead of him - and United must hope it is spent in the red half of Manchester. Because he has solved one of the major problems United had to fix.

Man Utd handed major transfer boost as club chief gives green light for deal
Trabzonspor's president has revealed that the club are keen to sign Andre Onana on a permanent basis from Manchester United this summer. The goalkeeper has spent the current campaign on loan in Turkey with the Super Lig side after falling out of favour at Old Trafford. Onana had prepared for the 2025-26 season expecting to remain at United, but suffered a hamstring injury that ruled him out of the opening fixture, and was subsequently dropped by Ruben Amorim upon his return to full fitness. Senne Lammens was brought in on deadline day with Onana heading out on loan. Trabzonspor agreed to cover the 30-year-old's wages in full, meaning he actually received a pay rise owing to Turkey's 20 per cent tax rate for players in the Super Lig. Onana has featured in every league match for Trabzonspor this season, playing a pivotal role in their push for the Turkish title, with his displays drawing glowing praise from the local press. The Cameroon international earned further acclaim this week after saving three penalties during a shootout in the Turkish Cup quarter-finals. Following that match, Trabzonspor president Ertuğrul Doğan was quizzed about Onana's future and made clear his desire to keep him, report The Manchester Evening News Speaking to NTV Spor, he said: "Onana's career is already established. We like him. I've said this before. He has a certain plan for his career. If the conditions are right, we want him to stay. The final decision will be Onana's." Trabzonspor could offer Onana reduced wages this summer while still matching what he earned at United, thanks to Turkey's favourable tax regulations for professional players in the top flight. United will look to sell Onana on a permanent basis and recover as much as possible of the £47.2million they shelled out to sign the goalkeeper from Inter Milan back in the summer of 2023. Lammens has cemented himself as first choice during his debut campaign at United. Altay Bayindir has filled the No.2 role, but the 28 year old could seek pastures new this summer in pursuit of regular first-team football as a No.1 goalkeeper. Radek Vitek is an option to step in as United's second-choice stopper, but the gifted Czech goalkeeper is keen to play regularly following a successful loan spell with Bristol City in the Championship. Onana's contract at United is due to run until the summer of 2028. Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content.
